The expanding use of turbocharged reciprocating engines in light aircraft applications has accentuated the need for a performance correction procedure and a method of predicting nonstandard day turbocharged engine performance. The procedure proposed is outlined and equations are derived to account for the effects of exhaust gas temperature, exhaust back pressure, intercooler, compressor, turbine, fuel flow rate, altitude, and airspeed. Each effect is examined individually and weighed accordingly in the final relationship for standardized horsepower. A comparison is made between predicted performance and actual test data, to illustrate the accuracy and limitations of the correction procedure.
