An innovative methodology is proposed for product development using the best practices of software engineering processes to facilitate reduced time to market without compromising quality and reliability. The methodology uses existing processes such as CMMI, state-of-the-art tools and technologies such as modeling, simulation, rapid prototyping, Hardware-in-the-Loop real-time simulation, automatic code generation and software project management tools from SEI such as DSM. An attempt is made to find a solution to the current problem of vehicle recalls and increasing warranty costs which have become a major concern for Automotive OEMs, Tier I and the increasingly demanding customer.
