PROGRESS being made by this investigation is indicated by the fact that 33 progress reports have been submitted during the past year. This paper summarizes these reports. Four methods of vapor-lock control are treated: 1. By controlling fuel characteristics. 2. By fuel-tank supercharging. 3. By fuel cooling. 4. By compromise methods.Dr. Bridgeman considers: Method 1 least promising since most considerations point to fuel of higher vapor pressure, rather than otherwise. Method 2, he believes, merits serious consideration and further study, and Method 3 has many advantages. Method 4, he explains, consists of a local and temporary expedient in the case of any given aircraft design but it does not present a fundamental solution for the problem. Further studies are being continued and progress is being made, he reports.
