A CAD system incorporating evaluation methods for press forming severity has been developed.The methods are classified into following two. One of them is to output the diagnostic diagram for the severity by means of geometrical calculation, in an easy form for designers to understand as an aid to their judgements. Another method is to find the severity directly by the determination of local elongation by means of plasticity calculation.This CAD system is being applied in Toyota plants to all parts for which press forming are difficult, contributing greatly to reductions of production lead time and costs.
