The Cameo Systems Modeler offers a unique set of options for importing Excel based information into their modeling system. There are four different importing options that can be utilized. Each has a different set of features and capabilities with varying degrees of effectiveness for importing Excel based information. The four options explored here are the Cameo Datahub, Excel Import, CSV Import and the Excel/CSV Sync.Cameo Datahub is designed to connect and interface with requirements management tools and includes a secondary sub-feature to work with CSV files. The Excel Import offers deep mapping options via the modeling tool’s own systems. The CSV Importer allows for importing new, and updating existing, elements with a flexible key feature. The Excel/CSV Sync enables exporting, importing, and updating with identifying changes in Cameo. For the requirements one has, one may choose any of these options over another due to how each tool does at least one thing better than the others. No option is ever definitively the best for all importing activities. This article analyzes each tool, specifies strengths and weaknesses, and presents a situation one may choose each of these Cameo based Excel importing options.
