Materials, methods, and equipment used in coping with cleaning and processing problems common to the chemical surface treatment of automobile bodies are discussed. New information is presented in connection with the essential and important, but too often neglected, final acidified rinse of the processing cycle. The paper is specifically aimed at showing the desirability of a plant level educational program which emphasizes the relationship of technique in surface preparation to the quality of the final paint finish.
