The progress of sealing during the past decade, coupled with present-day problems, challenges both engine and seal manufacturers to come up with improved seal materials and designs. The need for improved seal education on the production line and in the service shops together with “on the spot” service to determine reasons for seal failure can assist greatly in reducing present seal problems. Low temperature sealing problems are discussed in this paper and test results of present and new seal materials in cold temperature environment are reported.
