This paper summarizes the results of an ongoing research project[1] sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to evaluate the use of recycled materials for roadside safety devices including highway noise barriers, guardrail posts and blockouts, and right-of-way fence posts. The results of a literature search are included, along with the test results of a full-scale crash test of a guardrail system using recycled plastic guardrail posts and blockouts.
