This paper presents the design and construction of a radio controlled model airship that was build as a hobby in a non-professional environment by 2 mechanical engineers. After simulations and field tests the project became a reality and the model airship navigated the Brazilian skies in 1998. The model is focused for outdoor operation and has 13 m length and 3,5 m diameter. It operates with 4 internal combustion engines and uses 60 m3 helium as lifting gas.
