The reaction injection molding (RIM) of structural composites is a cost effective process. Raw material cost, glass and resin, may constitute 80-85% of the total part cost when the RIM process is used. Therefore, the optimum levels of glass and resin is important in relation to performance requirements and part weight objectives. This paper describes a new polycarbamate resin and economic considerations resulting from its use with several glass alternatives.
