The hydrostatic transmission for work vehicles provides easier control, and more efficient matching of torque output to required torque output. The paper discusses primary control systems (speed control and torque control) and secondary or limiting controls (torque limiting, power input limiting, and overload protection). The higher noise levels of hydrostatic transmissions are not found to be an overly objectionable factor, however there are many areas where the noise levels can be reduced.
