Failure of silicone seals due to reversion (or breakdown of the material) in automotive rear crankshaft applications is more prevalent today due to increased engine temperatures and poor oil resistance to the latest classification of engine oils (SF Grade). Fluoroelastomer seal materials provide a solution to the problem through increased oil and heat resistance leading to longer seal life.
