A DESCRIPTION of a testing machine for checking the deflections in rear axles and transmissions is presented in this paper. The technique of making a test is explained, and the method of obtaining and recording the data is outlined. Some important weaknesses as shown up in the tests are discussed, and suggestions are made for correcting them. The author concludes that, in order to obtain maximum fatigue life, such gears must be mounted most rigidly. He points out, however, that this ideal is not accomplished in commercial installations, but is modified by economic considerations.A DESCRIPTION of a testing machine for checking the deflections in rear axles and transmissions is presented in this paper.
