Following reports of valve wear encountered in the field on gas engine models which had given satisfactory service for many years, an extensive research program was initiated at Waukesha Motor Company. This program covered a study of measurement methods, materials, and lubricating oil effects on gas engine valve and seat life. Some of the conclusions reached on the basis of the test results are described.
