Fluorocarbon elastomers in the form of ‘0’ ring seals, hoses, etc. are widely used in gas turbine engines and hence come into contact with lubricants approved for use in those engines.Reports of oil/fluorocarbon elastomer incompatibility have been made which have required investigation in order to determine why such problems occur. This paper deals with certain aspects of compatibility investigated by traditional test techniques and reveals some of the complexities of the problem.
