In active suspensions for road vehicles with full state feedback the performance index may be improved by the use of dynamic vibration absorbers applied to the axles. Output or partial state feedback may, however, be employed with only negligible increase in the performance index. Two different designs are proposed and a method for computing both the feedback gains and the vibration absorber spring and damper rates is described. The suspension is assumed to be of the electrohydraulic type and it is shown that the addition of the vibration absorber should result in a significant hydraulic power saving.
