On Sep 16-18, 2016, Iowa State University hosted the first ITE Midwest Student Leadership Summit (ITEMSLS). Based on the original Western District ITE Student Leadership Summit envisioned and hosted by Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2014, the summit provided a student-led conference for college students, particularly focusing on leadership and professional development topics. On Friday, students gathered for a photo scavenger hunt and a night of activities to get to know one another, ranging from sharing an interesting fact about yourself to human bingo and a marshmallow tower competition. In the competition, students learned to challenge their initial assumptions while they worked as a team against the clock, with pasta struggling to bare heavy marshmallows. Beyond breakout sessions, ITEMSLS featured workshops and panels. The two panels focused on career advice and ethics. Both panels featured a wide variety of experienced individuals.
