This paper presents an exact nonlinear analysis for the stiffness of a mooring system as a function of the displacement and orientation of the floating structure. The analysis allows a derivation of the mooring stiffness matrix while considering slack mooring line resting on the seabed, as well as slack and taut suspended lines. In contrast to other similar analyses, numerical finite differences are not required to calculate the entries of the stiffness matrix. The influence of mooring system geometry, configuration and number of lines on the mooring system stiffness is then investigated for a taut-leg platform.
