As the author traveled to the ITS America Annual Meeting that took place in June 2016 in San Jose, CA, USA, he couldn't help but imagine what it was like for the people that attended the World's Fair in nearby San Francisco in 1915. There were several highly-anticipated technological marvels demonstrated at that fair. The first was the CP Huntington, the first steam locomotive purchased by the Southern Pacific Railroad, which currently resides in the California State Railroad Museum. In addition to seeing the CP Huntington, World's Fair attendees could witness the Ford Motor Company operating an assembly line inside the Palace of Transportation producing a new automobile every 10 minutes. Those exhibits demonstrated the best of what Americans were capable of. Now here they are 101 years later, in Northern California, talking about the greatest transportation technologies that the 21st century has to offer. Their technology is smaller, more digital, more automated, and more complicated than ever.
