In Aug 2015, a software error in the FAA's Virginia air traffic control center's automated routing center forced the major airlines to cancel hundreds of flights across the mid-Atlantic region of the US. An upgrade to the software that feeds radar and tracking data to flight controllers, called the En Route Automation Modernization, or ERAM, caused a system error at the FAA's high-altitude radar facility in Leesburg VA. Here, Kenon discusses the cybersecurity concerns of NextGen.
