In his seminal work, Emotional Intelligence and Social Intelligence: The New Science of Human Relationships, an eminent psychologist Daniel Goleman posed the question about what makes a leader. He then set out to illustrate that self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skill define the term "emotional intelligence", which has since evolved as a gold standard in understanding leadership skills. Goleman expands the definition of social skill to include persuasiveness and leading change. Persuasiveness and change management abilities are usually characteristics of those who are outstanding in their profession. Great leaders persuade the staff and other leaders through competence and delivery, thereby bringing about organizational change in a seamless manner.
