An obituary for R. Richard Heppe, president of Lockheed Corporation, who died on Jan 18, 2015 at the age of 91, is presented. Widely recognized nationally as one of the preeminent engineers of his generation, he was a master of advanced design and competitive proposals. In 1947, Heppe joined Lockheed as an aerodynamics engineer. With special knowledge of supersonic aerodynamics he advanced to department manager, and was involved in advanced designs, including the F-104 fighter aircraft. Later he was chief engineer on the Lockheed Model L-2000 supersonic transport.
