An obituary for Ralph A. Jacobson, retired US Air Force major general and former president of Draper Laboratory in Cambridge MA, who died Nov 1 at the age of 82 is presented. Jacobson served 32 years in the Air Force, joining after graduating from the US Naval Academy in 1956 with a bachelor's degree in engineering. He served as a tactical airlift pilot in Vietnam, an Air Force project officer for the Draper-developed Titan II Inertial Guidance System, and later in a series of space-related positions before capping his military career as director of special projects for the Secretary of the Air Force.
