The Gondola for High-Altitude Planetary Science (GHAPS) project was initiated to develop a balloon platform to meet planetary science goals and objectives as outlined in the NASA decadal survey. GHAPS is a first-generation reusable platform design optimized for multiple long-duration flights and planetary science. The gondola design was intended to accommodate infrared (IR) and ultraviolet/visible (UV-Vis) observations, supporting detection of water and carbon dioxide and allowing for long-duration flights to enable time-based studies. It was anticipated that the GHAPS gondola design would evolve over time with changing science demands. This report describes the as-designed configuration and capabilities of the GHAPS gondola.
