Advances made in materials processing research from experiments performed during space shuttle mission 62 aboard the Columbia orbiter are discussed. The experiments in the US Microgravity Payload (USMP-2) included the following: a host of microgravity materials science experiments; the Critical Light Fluid Scattering Experiment; and the Long-Duration Space Environment Candidate Material Exposure Experiment. The Office of Aeronautics and Space Technology (OAST-2) experiments included the Experimental Investigation of Spacecraft Glow and the Spacecraft Kinetic Infrared Test. Various aspects of the experiments are briefly discussed.
