This is an overview of the White Sands Test Facility's role in ensuring the safety and reliability of materials and hardware slated for launch aboard the Space Shuttle. Engine firings, orbital flights debris impact tests, and propulsion tests are featured as well as illustrating how they provide flight safety testing for the Johnson Space Center, other NASA centers, and various government agencies.
