Simulated flight experiments to Mach 0.4 on underexpanded jets show that flight has only minor effects on both the shock structure and shock associated noise. Although screech modes that do not exist statically become dominant at the higher flight speeds, the screech amplitudes and directivity as well as the broadband shock noise amplitudes remain relatively constant as the forward speed is increased. The change in wavelength due to flight on both shock noise components are predicted well from existing theories of shock noise.
