Oscillatory combustion experiments to detect the sensitivity of double base rocket propellants to low frequency oscillations are reported. Two regions in the L-star-plane were found where the ARP propellant was apt to oscillate: 0.15 MPa smaller than p(mean) smaller than 0.4 MPa with 0.25 m smaller than L-star smaller than 0.8 m and 1.4 MPa smaller than p(mean) smaller than 4 MPa with 0.25 m smaller than L-star smaller that 1.6 m (L-star=characteristic length of the combustion chamber). No oscillations were observed with the JPN propellant. The effective growth constants were deduced and, postulating various models for damping in the combustion chamber, it was possible to estimate the growth constant of the ARP propellant. Correlation of the response function with p(mean), between p(mean) at oscillation and L-star and between frequency and L-star were found to be weak. Very good correlation was found between frequency and p(mean).
