The proposed supplemental freeway improvement (F.A. 410) will consist of the construction of approximately 89 miles of a fully access controlled highway. The improvement originates at F.A.I. 255 north of Columbia, Illinois, and terminates east of Carbondale, Illinois. The corridor study area includes the southwestern Illinois counties of Monroe, Randolph, Perry, and Jackson. The environmental impacts and adverse environmental effects of the freeway improvement consist of the following: Requires the acquisition of approximately 3,240 acres of land, excluding the land needed for interchange locations, for new highway construction; Although the exact number cannot be determined at this stage in the study, some residences and businesses will be displaced; a slight increase in air and noise pollution levels will occur in some areas due to the increased motor vehicle operation; and it crosses over areas of coal reserves which are scheduled to be either strip mined or deep mined in the immediate future.
