Air passenger complaints have increased substantially in recent years partly because passengers have come to expect high quality service from domestic airlines. While for the most part these expectations are met, occasionally problems do occur-baggage is lost or damaged, passengers are overcharged, and flights are oversold, resulting in some passengers being denied timely transportation. Not all complaints are justified, nor is the consumer always right; however, federal airline regulation has sometimes weakened the passenger's consumer rights. This report deals with air traveler complaints and the Federal Government's role in their alleviation.
