The primary goal of the research described was to establish, by way of computer simulations, an improved procedure for using an Impact Simulator (HYGE sled) to obtain estimates of dummy responses that would occur in full-scale vehicle crash (barrier) tests. The MVMA 2-D CVS Q-FEM Airbag Model was used for all simulations. Impact Simulator tests, a vehicle crash test, and all computer simulations were for a right front-seat passenger in a Chrysler preprototype, S-body vehicle with a midmount passenger-airbag system.
