The continued increase in the quantity of avionics equipment in military aircraft has already given rise to a critical situation in terms of cooling. The environment, particularly at high speed and low levels, has made the use of the airframe or the fuel as a heat sink less profitable arrangement than in the past. Alternative solutions must be found which include both the reduction in sources of heat and more efficient methods of cooling. This specialist meeting was designed to familiarise the NATO scientists and engineers with current research and development work in the field of cooling and electrical power supplies, to define the problem quantitatively, and to identify areas which require research.
