In a joint effort, personnel of the Goodyear Aerospace Corporation and of the Army Research Institute (ARI) conducted research to improve the performance of operators in interpreting SLAR (side-looking airborne radar) imagery in real-time or near real-time inflight display systems. The principal objective of the experimental study was to determine the precision with which image interpreters can determine the coordinate location of targets detected on a near real-time SLAR display or in a simulated situation.
