On November 6, 1993, the NOORDAM, a Netherlands Antilles passenger ship heading for the Port of New Orleans, collided with the MOUNT YMITOS, a heavily laden Maltese bulk carrier heading for open sea. Nine crewmembers on the NOORDAM received minor injuries, and damage to both vessels was substantial. The report examines the following safety issues: maintaining a proper lookout on the NOORDAM, performance of the master of the MOUNT YMITOS, Holland America Line oversight, and emergency passenger notification procedures.
