The development of a small, spider-like robot which can carry a variety of nondestructive testing devices is discussed. This robot can be guided from the ground and its signals can be processed in a personal computer. The device can be used for inspection of a wide variety of commercial aircrafts. Its size and cost permit inspection to be done in many locations along with regularly scheduled maintenance. This is a timely, cost-effective, reliable approach to a continuing problem of aging aircraft.
