The objective was to prepare and assess a number of alternative strategies for the next 10-15 years for the development and operation of Adelaide's transport system. The strategies identified illustrate the alternative directions which could be followed in Adelaide given the range of economic resources likely to be available, and given the land-use planning and urban development policies which are being pursued. The principal subject of the Study was the State Government sector of transport in Adelaide, that is, the arterial road system provided and maintained by the Highways Department, and the public transport provided by the bus, tram and rail services.
