This report briefly describes and demonstrates the various methods and procedures that can be used by designers system analysts to compare satellite communications antenna patterns, various flight scenarios and altnerate placement of antennas on a C-135 type aircraft. The research demonstrates a simulation technique that can be used to select realistic antenna locations by evaluating the coverage of several different types of antennas at various aircraft locations in numerous randomly selected flight paths. Plots of percentage time to antenna gain provided a means to evaluate the effectiveness of these different antenna types mounted on a C-135 aircraft at two different locations during three simulated hypothetical mission scenarios.
