The study quantified the extent of excess travel due to inefficient highway navigation for non-commercial vehicles in the United States in terms of both distance and time. Estimates of the consequences of the excess travel in terms of vehicle operating costs, accident potential and lost time are presented. Potential remedial measures are described and evaluated.
