The Frog Otoligh Experiment was devised and developed by Dr. Torquato Gualtierotti (University of Milan, Italy) when assigned to the Ames Research Center as a Senior Resident Research Associate of the National Academy of Sciences - National Research Council. Ames Research Center provided assistance in development of the micro- electrodes, bioamplifiers, and data reduction techniques. The Frog Otolith Experiment Package (FOEP) was designed and developed by the Applied Physics Laboratory of Johns Hopkins University. The experiment was originally planned as part of the Apollo Mission AS-205 (1966) which never materialized. In late 1967 authorization was given to fly the FOEP when integrated into a supporting spacecraft on a Scout Vehicle. A separate satellite, Radiation/Meteoroid, is also included on this flight as an integral part of the Scout's fourth stage hardware.
