Studies of high speed liquid impact and cavitation are summarized. The effects of rain erosion on airframes, propellers, rotary wings, and turbine blades are discussed. It was determined that under certain circumstances a collapsing cavity involutes and forms high speed jets. The effects of cavitation damage on ships and hydrofoils which serve to limit the speed of such vehicles through the cavity involutes and forms high speed jets. The effects of cavitation damage on ships and hydrofoils which serve to limit the speed of such vehicles through the water is examined. The behavior of many materials under the stress of water impact and cavitation is described. Mathematical models are included to support the theoretical aspects. (Author)
