Large and compact antenna test range (FFTR, CATR) ability to evaluate parabolic antennas mounted on payloads was compared, using the Copernicus satellite. The handling requirements give a collection of facilities for CATR payload testing to ensure a high standard of environmental conditions and quality control during qualification and flight acceptance testing. Measurement of antenna boresight describes an alignment procedure for the electrical axis of the payload antennas, whereas the optical alignment test procedure precisely defines the position of the payload antennas within the satellite coordinate system. The radiation pattern test procedure describes the electrical qualification tests at equipment level on a satellite antenna system. These test procedures are applied at FFTR and can be adapted to CATR. Error analysis identifies and qualifies possible error sources within a CATR based on experience with an FFTR. As far as the FFTR procedures are applicable to a CATR, error identification is rather simple and error analysis can be evaluated using CATR specification data.
