During the first two and a half months of Operation HINES, the Division's general mission remained essentially the same as in the later stages of Operation MACARTHUR: conduct sustained, coordinated, and combined offensive operations to destroy enemy main and local force units, destroy or neutralize enemy base areas, interdict high-speed infiltration routes, assist in the protection of urban areas, and support pacification efforts and civil programs of the Government of VIETNAM.
