Radar speed studies were made at a sufficient number of points on uniform grades to obtain a speed profile for various classes of of vehicles. Analysis of these data indicate that vehicles, particularly the tractor semi-trailer trucks, are able to traverse these grades at higher speeds than those previously reported. A comparison of the results with existing design curves indicates the possible need of revision of the design criteria for climbing lanes due to improved capabilities of vehicles currently using highway facilities.
