A study of Type 2 household goods containers was performed to determine whether the container as presently constructed would withstand the testing prescribed in MILITARY-STANDARD-1489. The testing was performed on a new container and on a used container that had made two trips. A contractor was brought in to load the household goods into the containers, so that packing would be typical. A controlled test was made to determined whether driving lag bolts in with a hammer would give the holding power developed by screwing them in as designed. (Author)
