Some preliminary accomplishments of sonic boom research in predicting strength and location of sonic boom shock waves, determining the effects on light aircraft, and evaluating community tolerance to various levels of sonic boom intensity are reviewed. A brief summary of the implications of sonic boom with regard to supersonic transport design is included.
