A comprehensive Research and Analysis program is underway to support the fuel economy rulemaking activities. The objectives of this support program are to develop, maintain, and update: (1) the data bases (statistical, technological, engineering, manufacturing, cost, financial, economic, marketing, and other national impacts); and (2) the analytical tools (framework, methodologies, and specific approaches) necessary to evaluate rulemaking and policy formulation activities in the area of automotive energy conservation.
