The report presents a collection of 17 individual studies which were carried out utilizing the information contained in the Vehicle Safety Design Surveillance System. The following items were statistically analyzed: collapsible steering colums; cars with and without collapsible steering columns; the controlled crush front end introduced on 1968 Ford vehicles; sidemarker lamps; vehicle color and driving style; fastback (low slope) rear windowed vehicles; body type and engine cylinder number versus vehicle weight, age and sex of driver, and accident type; front vs. rear engine cars; front and rear wheel drive cars; steel body shell vs. fiberglass body shell, etc. A study of pedestrian accidents discussed location, age, sex, and environmental factors. Highway characteristics were compared to accident frequency and severity, driver age, and season.
