Due to the unique mission requirements and anticipated costs of future satellites, the Air Force is investigating servicing its space assets on- orbit. This project examined current trends and technologies enabling on-orbit servicing (OOS), while concentrating on the logistics considerations for on- orbit support concepts. A cursory methodology to assess the need for OOS during acquisition is described. Technical and other limitations for OOS are identified. Satellite components that have the highest failure rates, low reliability, and components that may be expended prior to the end of system life are identified. Design reference missions are defined for several notional OOS missions.
