This report examines relevant literature for guidelines relative to the use of flight simulators, ranging from full mission to part-task trainers, in addition to requirements for flight crew experience and qualifications. Both sets of guidelines are established based on human factors research requirements, and are intended to match those requirements with the level of effort in establishing a test bed. In particular, researchers are provided guidance in choosing the minimum required test bed sophistication to achieve the objectives of a research program.
