The economic considerations for both a conventional (non-nuclear) ship and a nuclear ship are each presented in the four categories of capital and fixed costs, fuel costs, operation and maintenance, and ultimate disposal. Several of the latest versions of marine nuclear power plants utilizing pressure water reactors are presented and choices of components, fuels and fuel management, are discussed. An example is given which shows how the information presented in the dissertation can be applied. Using these procedures, an analysis of the relative merits of conventional and nuclear ships can be made for specific applications. (Author)
